The latest Government white paper is proposing changes to'Permitted Development Rights' to householders.
Roof extentions that are currently allowed under permitted development may no longer be possible.
Regardless to whether or not you are looking for a loft conversion now, it will become extreamly difficult to achieve permission for a roof extention when the new legislation comes in. These new proposals may be in place within a year. With this in mind you should be looking to put planning / certificate of lawfulness against your property now.

Once planning / certifiacte of lawfulness is obtained, you have 5 years in which to carry out the works. Alternatively, you may be selling a property with planning permission in place - adding significant value to your home.
